The certificate of authorization, issued by the Ministry of the Ministère de l’Environnment et de la Lutte aux changements climatiques, currently in effect for the engineered landfill site, allows for a maximum of 755,000 m3 (approximately 595,000 tonnes of waste) to be buried. The first cell was built in 2009 and put into operation at the beginning of 2010. The last cells built began to be used in the summer of 2016. The permitted tonnage will be reached in the course of 2020. Given the short time frame before this deadline, the process to expand the engineered landfill site, in accordance with current regulations, was initiated in August 2017.

We must aim for Zero Waste, because it is essential to preserve our resources. It will take a lot of time and effort to convince yourself and others to reduce your waste volume, as this requires significant changes in everyone’s lifestyle. Until we achieve this goal, we must properly dispose of our waste in impermeable engineered landfills that meet strict regulatory requirements.
